I just do my thing my way anywhere I am and let the chips fall where they may. Some will love me, some will hate me, most will be somewhere in between. And I have learned to be perfectly OK with this.
I find bookstagram to be very artificial. Very grabby for likes and shares (much like the rest of it I suppose) and my feed is full of people who seem to have unlimited funds/time/space for a crazy amount of books. Obviously I'm jealous but it all feels like a sales pitch for follows and I'm getting a bit tired of it too. I've not been on Substack long but already it feels a slower pace. So far so good!
I definitely have the need to slow down a bit when it comes to social media in general. Thankfully, I've been following the same people from when I started over a decade ago. And it's been fun to see how their pages evolved a bit as they started to share more beyond the stacks.
my tbr hasn’t been this light since i left bookstagram ahah!
more seriously, there’s no need to stress about online stuff when you can live your life in the present moment, around your loved ones, doing what you love. so welcome to substack, i hope you’ll have fun :)
I’m an author (and mom to a toddler ) and did the same thing toward the end of May. I have never ever in my life been at peace like I am now without instagram! I’ve had it for so many years with all of my various businesses and honestly…the substack reading community is fantastic. Welcome. 🤍

Makes the mental load so much easier. :D
I've been adapting to this mentality and it's been great. I'm going to stick to this going forward.

I wondered if I was alone in feeling the shift in things over the last 5 years! Thank you for sharing your post. 💕
Yes! I'd say it was around COVID where I was really tuning into it. And started distancing a bit since then.

I never stopped blogging and suddenly I’m fashionable again. 😂😂😂

Welcome to Substack! I’m new and looking for that early 2000 blogging community. I hope to find it here.
I started in 2012, but Under the Cover Book Blog has been in the blogging world way longer than I have!
This is relatable. Sometimes reading changes for me, or we just go through seasons where it takes a back seat.
It's been a nice change, didn't realize how it was starting to stress me out a little. I'm enjoying spending time on other hobbies.
